What is Tap Dancing?
Tap Dancing is a fun, creative form of exercise and music-making with your feet, suitable for children and teens of all abilities. Tap has evolved as an American dance form and is often seen on stage in musicals, with origins influenced by African dance, Irish dance, and clog dancing. Dancers wear tap shoes with small metal plates on the toe and heel to produce the distinctive rhythms. Tap is a theatrical art form that develops musicality, rhythm, and performance skills.

Who This Class is For / Entry Recommendations
Although children aged 3–5 can take Tap, the routines at this age are often very simple and repetitive. We recommend they start with Ballet or Funky Feet first to develop essential skills such as balance, co-ordination, and concentration, which help make Tap more enjoyable.
Tap classes are suitable for all children and teens, including those with some dance experience and beginners. Classes help students build rhythm, confidence, and stage performance skills.
Tap Skills & Future Pathways
Older students develop the skills to produce intricate rhythms, explore different styles of Tap, and prepare for future performances and shows, such as Tap Dogs or 42nd Street. Tap also enhances skills useful for musical theatre, stage choreography, and performance across dance styles.
Teaching & Examinations
Tap is taught by a qualified teacher. We follow the ISTD Tap syllabus from Primary through to Advanced/Professional level. Adult Tap classes are also available. Students can gain NQF recognised qualifications through structured examinations, supporting both skill progression and confidence.
