What is Acro-Dance?
Acrobatic Dance (often referred to as Acro) is a dance style that integrates acrobatic skills within dance technique and choreography. If you have seen the impressive performers in Cirque du Soleil or routines featured on programmes such as Dance Moms, you will recognise how controlled tricks, balances, and transitions can enhance dance routines to create visually exciting performances.
In Acrobatic Dance, dancers will study Acrobatics (not Gymnastics) as part of their dance training, ensuring that skills support posture, strength, control, and safe movement within choreography. Skills such as cartwheels, walkovers, balances, and controlled transitions are taught progressively and integrated seamlessly into dance routines.
This training helps dancers become strong, flexible, and versatile, while also supporting progression into other dance styles including Contemporary, Jazz, Commercial, and Street Dance, as well as future pathways such as circus skills, aerial work, and cheerleading.
What Students Will Learn:
● Strength & Flexibility ● Balance & Coordination ● Dance & Acrobatics Integration ● Age-Appropriate Tricks (cartwheels, walkovers, etc.) ● Confidence & Performance Skills ● Team Work ● Choreographic skills Option to Progress to Circus Skills (aerial work) ● Safe, Supervised Environment
Who This Class Is For / Prerequisites
Students only attempt skills they feel comfortable performing. To join Acrobatic Dance, children should already attend classes that develop strength and flexibility, ensuring they can safely manage the demands of Acro-based tricks within dance routines.
This class is a dance-based Acro class rather than a Gymnastics programme, focusing on how acrobatic skills are applied artistically within choreography. All skills are taught progressively, and students only attempt movements appropriate to their ability and experience.
Students with gymnastics or cheerleading experience are very welcome and often enjoy learning how to adapt their existing skills into a dance and performance context, while beginners are also supported through progressive, carefully structured training.
Classes are suitable for children and teens looking to build versatility, strength, confidence, and performance quality within their dance training.
For individual guidance, you can speak with our qualified Acrobatic Dance teacher (Acrotrix Qualified), who will be happy to advise on suitability, progression, and safe skill development.
